Teaching Philosophy or Style:

  • Expert: Teachers who possess deep knowledge to share. 

  • Facilitator: Teachers who act as guides, creating environments and activities that encourage student discovery and collaboration. 

  • Demonstrator: Teachers who show and explain concepts or skills, often incorporating student-centered approaches while retaining authority. 

  • Learner-First vs. Teacher-First: Teachers prioritize the student's needs and development.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university or college in Education OR content related area: the Humanities, Formal (Math) Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences or Liberal Arts.

  • Preferred candidates will hold a valid teaching certificate, but this is not required. 

  • Have certification(s) and/or licensing, professional work experience or a career/occupation in one or more of the following areas: the Humanities, Formal (Math) Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences or Liberal Arts Industry. 

  • Some experience in teaching and class instruction. 

  • Willing to complete a background check to ensure the safety of students. 

  • Strong organizational and time and classroom-management skills. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues 

  • Ability to build rapport with students 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of JLA.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and educate students in a classroom setting 

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans 

  • Adhere to established teaching curriculum 

  • Maintain positive relationships with students and parents 

  • Document and share student grades and evaluations 

  • Maintain the health and safety of all students
