Math Foundations

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9 Duration: 2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: Grade 9 Math Foundations build on middle school concepts, focusing heavily on Algebra 1 (linear equations, factoring, functions) and introducing core Geometry (proofs, shapes, transformations), alongside essential skills in Number Systems, Polynomials, Rational Expressions, Scale Factors, Circle Geometry, and the beginnings of Trigonometry & Statistics, all designed to prepare students for higher math by connecting concepts through problem-solving and real-world applications.

Pre-Algebra

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9 Duration: 2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: Grade 9 Pre-Algebra is a course designed to prepare students for high school Algebra 1 by covering foundational concepts from arithmetic and introducing algebraic topics. It includes topics like operations with integers and rational numbers, solving one- and multi-step equations, working with variables and expressions, and understanding ratios, proportions, and percentages. The goal is to bridge the gap between middle school and more advanced math, reinforcing basic skills while introducing abstract concepts.

Algebra I

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9     Duration: 2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview:  Algebra 1 continues the study of variables, constants, expressions, and equations. Topics covered are: solving equations, simplifying expressions, understanding the order of operations, using properties, arithmetic operations with positive and negative numbers, polynomials, factoring, graphing (linear and quadratic equations), working with radicals, and probability. Applications of these topics are stressed.

Honors Algebra 1

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9     Duration: 2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview:  Honors Algebra 1 continues the study of variables, constants, expressions, and equations. Topics covered are: solving equations, simplifying expressions, understanding the order of operations, using properties, arithmetic operations with positive and negative numbers, polynomials, factoring, graphing (linear and quadratic equations), working with radicals, and probability. Applications of these topics are stressed.

Algebra 2

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 10-11    Duration:  2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: Algebra 2 is an extension of topics taught in Algebra 1. Topics covered include linear and nonlinear functions, roots of polynomial equations, radical functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and rational functions.

Honors Algebra 2/Trigonometry

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9 - 10   Duration:  2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: Honors Algebra 2/Trigonometry is designed to prepare students for AP Calculus at the high school level. Application problems are included and combined with the graphing calculator and will serve to strengthen the student’s intuition and provide a concrete representation of algebraic functions. This course will cover topics taught in college Algebra and Trigonometry. This course is the equivalent of a one-semester college algebra course and a one-semester course in college trigonometry.

Geometry

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9-10       Duration: 2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: In addition to the properties of geometric figures, topics in logic will be taught. Emphasis will be placed on learning to organize thinking in an orderly manner to reach a valid conclusion. Selected topics in solid geometry will also be covered. Geometric proof is included.

Honors Geometry

Scope and Sequence

Grade Level: 9     Duration:  2 Trimesters Credits: 1.0

Overview: Honors Geometry introduces and examines the properties of geometric figures. The course fosters student use of logic to draw and prove conclusions based on those properties. Considerable emphasis will be placed on each student’s ability to communicate with clarity and precision in both written and oral form. Students will learn to apply problem-solving models to answer questions within the discipline of geometry.

Pre-Calculus Functions

Scope and Sequence

Grades: 10 - 12     1 Trimester Credits: .50

Course Overview: This course will continue the mastery of all linear and nonlinear functions. Students will learn to graph with accuracy, solve higher order equations as well as identify all meaningful characteristics.  Students will apply their new knowledge to complete applications of problems preparing them for AP Calculus.

Pre-Calculus Trigonometry

Scope and Sequence

Grades: 10 - 12     1 Trimester Credits: .50

Course Overview: This course will introduce the interpreting, solving, and graphing of all trigonometric functions.  Students will learn to graph with accuracy, solve trigonometric equations as well as utilize these concepts in real world application.
